ABOUT THE PROGRAM

 

The respite program enables families with the responsibility of caring for a loved one  temporary relief from the tasks associated with care giving.

 

The respite program specifically allows for an individual to have a pre-arranged short term stay at the home from five to 30 days.

 

Families may be in need of respite for a number of reasons including vacations, during medical procedures or recovery of the care giver or just a short rest period allowing them to regroup themselves.  Whatever the reasons this program will give the caregiver a sense of comfort in knowing that their loved one is being cared for in a secure, compassionate and home-like environment.

 

This respite also benefits the care recipient offering opportunities to socialize with others in which they may not have had within their current environment.                       

This program is for any individual over the age of 18 that requires 24 hour nursing care.  The two private respite rooms at St. Joseph’s both have a private bath with access to all of the home’s services including three meals a day, snacks, housekeeping, laundry, religious services and activities programming.

Here are some frequently asked questions and answers about the program.

 

1.         WHAT IS SHORT-TERM STAY RESPITE PROGRAM?

 

The program is where families or caretakers temporary relief from the tasks associated with care giving.  The length of stay is from five to thirty days.

 

2.         WHAT SERVICES ARE INCLUDED?

  • Three meals a day

  • Snacks

  • Housekeeping

  • Laundry

  • Religious services, and

  • Planned activities

Services are provided in a home-like environment.

 

3.         WHAT IS THE COST?

 

The cost can be discussed with the Social Worker or Business Manager.

 

4.         DOES INSURANCE COVER THE COST? 

 

Insurances does not cover the cost.

 

5.         WHO IS THE PHYSICIAN COVERING THE GUEST?

 

The respite guest is under the care of a licensed physician.  If their physician does not have privileges at St. Joseph's Home or unable to care for the guest, the medical director will assume medical care.  The physician visits are not included.

 

6.         HOW ARE IN ADVANCE IS THE ROOM RESERVED?

 

The room can be reserved as far as possible in order to guarantee the spot on the calendar.  The Social Worker is responsible for processing of all reservations.

 

7.         WHEN IS PAYMENT EXPECTED?

 

Applicants will be required to demonstrate ability  through private or eligibility such as Medicaid.  Depending on payment it may be required at the date of admission.

 

8.         DO WE BRING IN MEDICATIONS?

 

Medications are administered by physician’s orders.  Medications are ordered by pharmacy that serves the nursing home.  Medications are locked in medication Cart and is administered by the medication nurse.

 

9.         WHAT DOES THE GUEST BRING IN?

 

Clothes, personal hygiene items and laundry is offered but clothes will need to be marked.

 

10.        WHAT PAPERWORK IS NEEDED?

 

An application and a guest packet including physician form and a preadmission form.  Copies of power attorney and health care proxy.
